Write about your last few hours.

Make a gratitude list.

Why should you be in a good mood?

The choice before you.

What are you tempted to do?

What do you wish you wanted to do?

List both the good action you wish you wanted to do and the dumb action you currently want to do.

1. Minimize the benefits of the dumb action.

1a. What are the actual benefits of this action?

1b. What will it actually be like to do this action?

1c. How long will the benefits last?

1d. Does this action align with your values and self image?

2. Minimize the costs of the good action.

2a. How long will it actually take to do the action?

2b. How long will it actually suck to do the action?

2c. How much effort is actually required?

2d. How pleasant will it be to do the action?

2e. Why will it be pleasant?

3. Maximize the costs/consequences/sacrifices of the dumb action.

3a. How soon will you regret this action?

3b. What regrets will you have?

3c. What are the costs/consequences/sacrifices of this dumb action?

3d. How much will it suck to live with the costs/consequences?

3e. How long will the costs/consequences last?

3f. How does this violate your values and self image?

4. Maximize the benefits/rewards of the good action.

4a. What are the benefits/rewards?

4b. How long will you feel them?

4c. How soon will you feel them?

4d. How does this affirm your values and self image?

Meditate on the rewards and benefits of the good action for 15 to 30 seconds.

Did you clearly show that the dumb action has very low benefits and extremely high costs? And did you show that the good, smart action has extremely low costs and extremely high benefits?

Summary of your thoughts and feelings.

Make definitive decisions and stick to them.

You are a person of your word. Don’t keep thinking about these things. Don’t weigh the pros and cons any longer. Take actions that will cause happiness, peace, and pride.

Did this process work? Is dopamine now your ally? Do you feel pulled toward the right choice and ready to follow through?
